Team “TOKEN Titties” Dominate at the 2019 Maluti Double 90

The 2019 Maluti Double 90 team time-trial cycle race celebrated its fourth year this year, and our incredible “TOKEN Titties” ladies team scooped up first place!

Participating against 114 teams (up from 92 teams last year) our ladies did a fantastic job. 180km of rolling hills, 2200m of that ascending – it was not without sheer dedication, teamwork and a little laughter along the way that our ladies made it to the finish line first. That, in conjunction with premium TOKEN & SRT Carbon equipment, made all the difference, delivering these ladies with a stunning podium finish.

In 4 years, the race has gone from strength to strength, and given its growing entry numbers, it is clearly becoming an increasingly popular event for SA cyclists.

This year, the format brought many tactics into play that aren’t found in any solo-rider event. Teams strategised around sharing the workload and controlling the pace to get at least six of their riders across the line in the fastest possible time, and our ladies managed to do that in a spectacular 5h14:52. The TOKEN men’s team also narrowly missed the podium, finishing in 4th place overall in a very commendable time of 4h29:29. Job well done, Team TOKEN!

The growth of the Maluti Double 90 event is not surprising really. It’s a unique, inclusive format, with an incredibly scenic route (rolling through Golden Gate National Park is a highlight!), its route is challenging (180km of undulating hills with a 2200m ascent) and it’s based in Clarens (the gem of Maluti) – all hallmarks for a spectacular race, and this year certainly delivered.

We look forward to seeing what 2020 has in store!
